Police to host Night Out Against Crime

On Tuesday, August 5, 2003, neighborhoods throughout Biloxi are again being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “20th Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime/drug prevention event.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the City of Biloxi and the Biloxi Police Department, will involve over 9,700 communities from all 50 states, US Territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

In all, over 33 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime” on August 5th. NNO 2003 is being supported in part by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back.

The City of Biloxi will be sponsoring a Community Fair to be held in the park located behind the Biloxi Police Department, 170 Porter Avenue.

The event will last from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. and will plenty of food and fun for the entire family. There will be games and prizes for the children, plenty of exhibits including tours of the Fire Department Museum. These activities will interest all age groups.

The event is open to the public and is free. Everyone is invited to attend.
