MLK Celebration goes virtual this year

Beginning Wednesday, the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be honored through a number of virtual events during a week-long MLK Coastwide Celebration.

“Inspire, motivate, and education is what the MLK Coastwide Committee has done for 36 years to honor Dr. King’s legacy and we will not stop now,” states the committee’s Facebook page. It’s “the same informational, entertaining events, but virtual.”

Themed “Activism in Action,” the live event begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on the MLK Coastwide Celebration Facebook page with a Health and Wellness panel discussion. The discussion is set to focus on the coronavirus and the vaccine and includes Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Belinda Alexander, Pharmacotherapy Pharmacist Dr. Linda Clark, and Pediatrics Specialist Dr. Presharon Dixon. Moderator will be Angie Juzang.

Virtual events continue each day through Tuesday, Jan. 19 and are as follows: Jan. 14, When Women Talk at 7 p.m.; Jan. 15, Man 2 Man at 7 p.m.; Jan. 16, Youth Summit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Jan. 17, Gospel Extravaganza at 3 p.m.; Jan. 18, MLK Awards and Band Showcase at 3 p.m.; and Jan. 19, Day of Racial Healing at 7 p.m.
