Highwater marker to be unveiled at Visitors Center

The City of Biloxi will host a brief ceremony Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Biloxi Visitors Center to unveil one of 17 Katrina and Camille highwater markers that are being placed between Waveland to Ocean Springs.

The markers, which are being presented on the 10th anniversary of Katrina, are designed to bring awareness to the surge and highwater levels from Katrina and Camille.

Reads the plaque at the Biloxi Visitors Center:

“Both storms brought about great devastation and loss of life to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. There was approximately 1.5 billion dollars of damage to the coast leaving 131 dead and 41 missing.”
