A $275,000 project that will see new asphalt and sidewalk repairs on Beauvoir Road is expected to begin this week when contractors install signage and begin sidewalk repairs.
The three-month project, which will be funded by stimulus money through MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration, will involve intermittent lane closures and some traffic slowdowns when milling and paving begins in weeks.
Contractors on the job are Warren Paving, as general contractor; and subcontractor Landmark Construction, which will be responsible for concrete work.
Brodie Road improvements remain on track
Work on the upgrade of Brodie Road is ahead of schedule, and contractors expect the $3.2 million project to be fully completed in October.
The city project will see Brodie widened to three lanes from Cedar Lake Road to Destiny Plantation, where the new Brodie Road will transition to two lanes to tie into the existing two lanes at Lamey Road, the city boundary with D’Iberville.
When the mile-long section of roadway fully re-opens in October — it’s been limited to local traffic since work began — motorists will find the addition of curbing and gutters, new drainage and an increase in lighting and new lighting fixtures.
“I’m real happy with the job that the contractors are doing out there, and I appreciate the patience of residents and motorists,” Mayor A.J. Holloway said. “With everything that we have going on in the city today, this project has been quietly proceeding along without incident — on schedule and on budget.”
Actually, says Project Manager J.W. Ford of Yates Construction, the project is running ahead of schedule. The biggest challenges, Ford said, have involved installation of a 24-inch sewer line that is as much as 20-foot below ground in some areas. Contractors on the project are F&F Construction, Warren Paving and SCI.
