Casino resorts and other businesses in Biloxi and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast are open for business.
CNN incorrectly reported earlier today that all casinos in Mississippi had been closed because of flooding along the Mississippi River.
The network then began reporting that “some” casinos in Mississippi had been closed, which prompted a second call from the Biloxi mayor’s office to note that only Mississippi River casinos had been closed because of flooding.
“This is the same issue that we had with the reporting on the BP oil spill,” Mayor A.J. Holloway said. “These types of misstatements are damaging to our tourism industry.”
Holloway also thanked former City Councilmember Dianne Harenski for calling City Hall after seeing the CNN reports.
