Residents will have an opportunity on Saturday to safely get rid of expired or unneeded prescription drugs — by turning them in to the Biloxi Police Department.
Biloxi officers are hoping to have a successful follow-up to the take-back program in November, when residents turned in more than 10,000 doses of unwanted or expired prescription drugs. They also brought in enough used syringes and other paraphernalia to fill a five-gallon bucket.
On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., residents can bring expired or unwanted prescription drugs to the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center on Porter Avenue, two blocks north of the Biloxi Lighthouse.
The take-back program is a project originated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, which hopes to avoid the risks of drug abuse and environmental damage caused by flushing controlled substances down the toilet or throwing them away.
