Tullis-Toledano Manor, one of the city of Biloxi’s historic beachfront properties, has received a $175,000 grant for the restoration of the Crawford House from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Mississippi Landmark grant program. The grant, which will be matched with funds from the city, Harrison County and the Tullis-Toledano Manor Board of Directors, will be used to restore the interior of the Crawford House. The city’s $200,000 exterior restoration of the Crawford House, also funded in part by a grant from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, is currently underway and scheduled to be completed in March. Once fully restored, the building will be used as a recreational and educational center for the community.
As part of the Mississippi Landmark grant program, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History awarded $2 million dollars to 21 historic preservation projects across the state. The highly competitive grant program received fifty-two applications requesting $8.9 in funding.
Marylyn Gibson, president of the Tullis-Toledano Manor Board of Directors, attended the Dec. 13 meeting in Jackson where the grants were awarded. Said Gibson: “We are so thankful for the support the Mississippi Department of Archives and History has shown to Tullis and the Crawford House restoration project. What a wonderful Christmas present for Biloxi!”
