Surprise! MDOT to open westbound lanes TODAY

The Mississippi Department of Transportation, which planned to open all westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard in east Biloxi on Monday, announced this morning that those lanes as well as all westbound lanes on the Biloxi Bay Bridge will open today.

“The weather has been cooperating, so we’ve been able to get the work done even quicker than expected,” said Kelly Castleberry, project manager for the work.

MDOT had planned to open all westbound lanes on the Biloxi Bay Bridge and to I-110 on Monday morning, more than two weeks ahead of schedule for the bridge’s timeline.

Eastbound lanes on the bridge and to I-110 remain on schedule for an April 7 opening, a week ahead of the bridge’s April 16 deadline.

“This is great news for east Biloxi and for the thousands of motorists who travel through that area,” Mayor A.J. Holloway said. “I congratulate MDOT and its team of contractors for such outstanding work and getting it done ahead of schedule.”
