Supplies needed for Laura victims

The city is gathering supplies for the Cameron Parish, La., community, which was decimated by Hurricane Laura.

Supplies are being accepted primarily at three Biloxi fire stations: Station 1, Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center, 170 Porter Ave.; Station 5, Bay Vista, 2499 Pass Road; and Station 7, Cedar-Popp’s, 1672 Popp’s Ferry Road.

“We’ve been talking to people in Cameron Parish as well as people from Biloxi who have already made trips there,” Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney said. “From what I understand, the Cameron Parish area is generally made up of shrimpers and fishermen. Like many people, they don’t have a lot of extra money. They need supplies and we know Biloxi wants to help.”

Requested items:

— Cleaning supplies: bleach, pine oil, liquid laundry detergent, sponges and disinfectant wipes.

— Toiletries: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, peroxide, washcloths, toilet paper, towels, hand sanitizer, baby wipes

— Outdoors: Tarps, sunscreen, insect repellent.

— Miscellaneous: Gift cards, lighters, batteries, paper towels, canned goods.

No cash, clothing or diapers should be donated.

Supplies are due at stations by Sunday, so firefighters can load them into trailers Monday.

Said Boney: “We’re collecting supplies now, and we’re going to deliver supplies on Tuesday. We’re planning on bringing down our whole team of volunteers on Thursday for some more in-depth work, to help first responders get their homes livable.”
