Storm & Flood newsletter also talks about trash pickup

The city’s annual Storm & Flood Preparedness newsletter should be arriving in homes and businesses throughout Biloxi today and Wednesday, and this year’s edition has information about garbage, recycling and trash pickup.

The 12-page compendium includes a storm tracking map; information on evacuation routes and shelters; tips on how to create a storm plan for your family; frequently called numbers for local, state and federal agencies; and easy-to-understand information about the city’s construction permitting process.

Although hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, the period between Aug. 15 to Sept. 15 is typically prime time for storms.

And this year, there’s information setting the record straight about Waste Pro and trash pickup.

The fact is, when you place trash at your curbside  – including tree and lawn trimmings, or bulky non-hazardous material etc. – you don’t have to call anyone for pickup. Under the terms of its countywide contract, Waste Pro picks up trash and recycling each Friday for all areas of Biloxi south of I-10, and on each Wednesday for areas north of I-10 in Biloxi.

Best advice: Don’t place trash at curbside until a day or so before the appointed pickup time.

Household garbage is picked up each Tuesday and Friday in Biloxi south of I-10, excluding Eagle Point. For Eagle Point and areas north of I-10 in Biloxi, household garbage is picked up each Wednesday and Saturday.

Household garbage and recycling should be placed curbside in the appropriate Waste Pro receptacle or bin. Trash should also be placed curbside. Note that Waste Pro, under the terms of its contract with the Harrison County Utility Authority, will not pick up trash generated by private contractors or tree services. Also not included in the trash pickup are tires, refrigerators, air conditioners or any hazardous material.

Here’s the important thing to know: If your garbage, recycling or trash is not picked up on the appointed day, you should contact Waste Pro at (228) 818-5393.

If you have not received a prompt reply after calling Waste Pro, contact the city’s Citizens Services representative, Craig Ross, at (228) 435-6279 or cross@biloxi.ms.us.
