Biloxi Acting Mayor Robert L. Deming III believes that the Biloxi Shuckers may have jumped the gun in announcing a June 6 start date for baseball games at MGM Park.
Deming this afernoon said he was surprised by the announcement, and that there are no guarantees of having the stadium play-ready for June 6 without driving up costs from $250,000 to $500,000 to complete stadium construction after that proposed game.
“I don’t think it’s fair for the taxpayers of Biloxi to be boxed in the corner to meet this date and then have to absorb additional costs to complete work after we play that first game,” Deming said. “Right now, our contractual agreement calls for the work to be completed by Aug. 4, and while we’re working to have it ready ahead of schedule, it’s a bit early to have that date set in stone.”
