Run, festival and tree giveaway planned for Arbor Day observance

The 21st annual Arbor Day Run and Health Walk takes place in downtown Biloxi on Saturday, along with a daylong Arbor Day festival on the Town Green, and a tree giveaway at Hiller Park.

The Arbor Day 5K is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with a course winding through the streets of downtown Biloxi. A one-mile run and walk will begin at 9:45 a.m. Late registration for both races takes place an hour beforehand. For a registration form and more information, click here.

A daylong festival to benefit development of Disability Connection-an
Internet Resource Center & Directory for People with
Disabilities in South Mississippi takes place on the Town Green. The event will feature food, entertainment and games for all ages.

At 11 a.m., the city and Replant Biloxi will offer more than 2,000 trees — Shumard oak, pecan, bald cypress, American elder, and inkberry – during a free giveaway at Hiller Park.

“Last time we gave away a thousand trees in an hour,” said City Arborist Eric Nolan, “and I expect these will go just as fast.”

Residents can get up to five trees – some as tall as five feet – during the giveaway. Trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Residents will be required to fill out a form, which is available on the city web site or at the giveaway. To print a form now, click here.
