Rodeo, other events fill Fourth of July weekend

The Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo — with its array of fish displays, carnival rides and live entertainment — opens its four-day run at Point Cadet on Thursday.

The event is one of several weekend activities that Mayor A.J. Holloway expects to help kick off a banner month.

“This long weekend has plenty of things for people to see and do,” Holloway said. “July has traditionally been our busiest month of the year, and with the rodeo, the bike festival, the first anniversary of the Hard Rock and a host of other events this is a great kick off for the month.”

Additionally, Holloway noted, $50 gas vouchers are being offered to paritcipating hotel guests through a program sponsored by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Asscocistion. For more on that program, click here.

The deep sea fishing rodeo, which is celebrating its 60th year, will open its gates for visitors each day at noon at Point Cadet, with entertainment continuing through midnight. Admission is $5 for the weekend for adults; children 12 and under are admitted for free.

Among the entertainers scheduled to perform over the four days: Coconut Dave, TriggerProof, Autumn Rise-N, and bluesman Jr. Greene.
