Raising Cane’s breaks ground at Edgewater Mall

Raising Cane’s, the popular restaurant that specializes in chicken fingers, is already touting its still-under-construction Edgewater Mall location on its web site, even though it’s still a few months from opening.

The Baton Rouge-based franchise, with more than 140 restaurants in 17 states, broke ground last week at the former O’Charley’s site and is aiming for a March opening.

Edgewater Mall Manager Terry Powell adds that the mall welcomed children’s clothing outlet Crazy Eight last week, will see McDonald’s begin construction after the first of the year, and has a 6,500-square-foot Mens Warehouse locating between Sears and Books-a-Million in January.

The mall is “enjoying a robust year,” Powell says, pointing to the Walmart super center a block away from Edgewater Mall as a catalyst for the renewed interest. And, of course, there’s the mall’s million square feet of retail in a climate-controlled environment. “Adding new shops,” Powell says, “is just going to create even more synergy in this area.”

The Cane’s location, meantime, will join locations in Orange Grove and Pascagoula. To visit the Raising Cane’s web site, click here.
