Public banquet to honor BHS football team is Sunday night

Members of the Biloxi High’s District 4-6A championship football team will be honored
Sunday during a public banquet at the Donal M. Snyder Sr. Community Center in west Biloxi.

The team, one of the best fielded by Biloxi in decades, ended the season with an overall 10-3 record, and undefeated in district play.

Head Football Coach John Shannon will join fellow coaches, and leaders of the district, school and community in presenting individual awards to team members.

Also recognized will be the ninth grade football team, National Scholar-Baller winners, and other academic achievers on the football team.

The banquet will be from 5:15 to 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

Excel by 5 to host holiday activities Saturday morning

The Biloxi Excel by 5 program will host “Come Learn With Santa” on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lopez School at 140 St. John Ave.

The free event will allow those up to age 5 to make a handprint keepsake, decorate a Christmas ornament, enjoy a Christmas story from Mrs. Claus, or take a picture with Santa. Singing and dancing with Santa and Mrs. Claus also are planned, and free snacks will be available.

The program is co-sponsored by the city, Biloxi Public Schools and the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

Police seek toys for Santa Wears a Badge program

The Biloxi Police Department is accepting toys and names of the needy for its Santa Wears a Badge program, which helps less-fortunate children in the community.

Donation boxes – where residents can drop off new, unwrapped toys – are at the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center on Porter Avenue; Dane’s Barber Shop and Worldwide Insurance, both outside Keesler Gate 7 on Pass Road; Majestic Oaks RV Park, Pass Road; BP stations on Pass Road and Popp’s Ferry Road; Josette’s, Howard Avenue; and at the Public Safety Communications Center or garage on Popp’s Ferry Road.

Those with needy children – up to 12 years of age, living in Biloxi and not registered with any other agency – can register with the Biloxi Police Department’s Community Relations Division at (228) 435-6133.
