Anyone interested in seeing how law enforcement works from the inside out can sign up for the annual Citizens Police Academy and find out!
The Biloxi Police Department is now accepting applications for participants for its Fifth Annual Citizens Police Academy taking place Aug. 21 to Oct. 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The program, conducted at the Biloxi Police Training Center located at 321 Division St., is designed to give citizens insight into the different divisions of the Biloxi Police Department and how the department serves the community.
“The program is a way for the department to educate and develop positive relations with our citizens,” said Biloxi Police Captain Jay Morgan. “We are continuing to build community cooperation, understanding, and goodwill.”
The Fifth Annual Citizens Police Academy will now be held twice a week, instead of once a week. This focuses instruction over a shorter duration with classes scheduled for two hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will also be some extra days scheduled for make-up days.
The CPA includes classroom-based teaching, a ride-along, a department tour, K-9 demonstrations, and some hands-on demonstrations. The program continues to be limited to 25 participants and fills up quickly, so anyone interested should apply as early as possible.
Participants must be at least 21 years old, a resident of Harrison County, and must complete an application, which is available at the front desk of the Public Safety Center, 170 Porter Ave.
The application deadline is Aug. 1.
For any questions, contact Captain Jay Morgan at 228-435-6204 weekdays, or by email at jmorgan@biloxi.ms.us.
