This week in Community Development, the Development Review Committee reviewed a site plan for a new Sunbelt Lighting showroom to be located on Cedar Lake Road, just south of Love’s Truck Stop. The proposed structure will be 10,000 sq. ft. and will provide a substantial inventory of new lighting, and related fixtures for residential and commercial purposes. The DRC also reviewed site utility modifications for the former Casino Magic structure which is currently being renovated.
Also this week, the Biloxi Planning Commission approved an application for a Preliminary (Townhome) Subdivision Re-plat, for property located at 725 Elder Street. The property is currently zoned (RM-30) Residential Multi Family-30 units per acre, and the application proposes the construction of 12 new townhome units, which will face Moran Alley. The Planning Commission also approved an application for the closing of the 101’ northern portion of Easy Lane, and a sign size variance request for IP Casino. The recommendations for the re-plat, and the street closing, will now go before the city council for final consideration.
The city council voted Tuesday to approve an application for Short Term Rental at 129 Lee Street, and for the conversion of a single family structure at 225 Gill into a duplex. Plan reviews are almost complete for the new Woody’s Roadside Grill to be located at Beach Boulevard and Althea. The building permit should be issued early this week. A “foundation only” permit was issued this week for the new 25,000 sq. ft. bowling alley for Big Play Family Fun Center on Beach Boulevard. Permits were also issued for 3 new single family houses.
74 total building permits were issued this week with a construction valuation of $1.1 million dollars. Inspectors performed 98 inspections, and issued 4 Certificates of Occupancy. Code Enforcement Inspectors opened 91 cases, and closed 76. Sales Tax revenues for the month of January totaled $1,082,489.00, which was the highest total for January since 2007.
