Winter is just around the corner and for the Parks and Recreation Department this means time for winter sports. The city’s winter sports begin this year with soccer and basketball.
“Hurricane Katrina caused some type of damage to every one of the city’s parks”, said Greg Eleuterius, Biloxi’s Parks and Recreation Athletic Specialist. “Most of the parks had light poles and fences down but we are ready to begin our sports.”
Registration for the Biloxi Soccer Organization, ages four through nineteen, will be held on Saturday, October 29 and Saturday, November 5 at the Popps Ferry Soccer Complex on Popps Ferry Road from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The complex is located across from the area’s library and fire station. Registration for the Biloxi Youth Basketball, ages six through fifteen, will be held on Saturday, November 12 at the softball fields in Hiller Park, off Pass road, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
The season will officially start in about three to four weeks after the registration process has been completed. “To have fifty percent of attendance for basketball and soccer from last year would be great” Eleuterius said. “We are also offering soccer and basketball for free for this season only but in January we will resume our full season of sports.”
The parks and recreation department sports include basketball, baseball, football, soccer, youth softball, adult softball, and cheerleading.
