Natatorium to host huge swim meet

The Biloxi Natatorium, the city’s indoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, will host one of its largest events ever next weekend.

The 6th Annual Splashin’ the Coast swim meet, which has been a popular travel meet for teams from throughout the Southeast, will feature two teams from teams from Texas, seven teams form Louisiana, seven teams from Mississippi, and three teams from Tennessee.

“This is a very competitive meet we have been hosting for the past few years. ” said Jamie Lee, head coach for the Biloxi Elite Swim Team, which is co-hosting the affair with the city’s Parks & Recreation Department and USA Swimming. “It’s a quality meet when you get teams that want to travel to your area who are more than three to four hours away. This year, we actually had to turn down teams who wanted to attend because of the large number of swimmers entered. Our home team, Biloxi Elite, has over 75 swimmers entered.”

The meet begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 27, and continues Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29. Older swimmers will have their preliminary sessions in the morning and come back in the evening for the finals sessions beginning at 6 p.m. Younger swimmers will compete midday.

The meet is open to the public with free admission and concessions will be available.

The Natatorium is at 1384 Father Ryan Ave.
