MDOT crews closed the westbound left lane of U.S. 90 today at White Avenue for drainage improvements as part of a repaving project on the state highway.
Work and the lane closure at White Avenue are expected to continue until Friday, followed by similar pipe replacement work on U.S. 90 at Acacia Drive, Rodenburg Avenue and two locations at Beauvoir Road. Workers are expected to be at each location for three days.
“U.S. Highway 90 is a crucial travel route for tourism and business along the coast,” MDOT Public Information Officer Jace Ponder said. “We monitor city events and do everything possible to schedule work to have the least amount of impact on traffic and commerce. Crews will not be on the highway for major events whenever possible.”
The Mississippi Department of Transportation had announced the U.S. 90 work in August 2018. The first two sections, $4.4 million and $5.5 million contracts awarded to Huey P. Stockstill, covered from the east end of the Bay St. Louis bridge to Russell Avenue, and from Russell Avenue to Debuys Road. The third phase, from Debuys to the Biloxi Bay Bridge, was awarded to Warren Paving for $6.5 million with an expected completion in late summer or early fall of this year.
