Margaritaville opening: All things Biloxi

It was, Mayor A.J. Holloway says, a flashback to the excitement of the early days of legalized gambling in Biloxi, when thousands stood in line to see all of the bright lights and amenities on opening day for multi-million-dollar casino resorts.

And Tuesday afternoon’s grand opening of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant, complete with a VIP party headlined by the Jolly Mon himself, was all about Biloxi.

“It was great,” Holloway said. “You had Jimmy Buffett pointing to Jake Mladinich, who gave him his first job. You had the great backdrop of the Biloxi Bay Bridge, and the dozens of boats anchored in the bay listening to the music. You had almost a thousand people at new Margaritaville jobs, and 20,000 guests passing through the doors in the first 12 hours of the opening.

“It just doesn’t get much better than that.”
