A centennial observance at City Hall
The City of Biloxi on Monday will observe the centennial of the building housing City Hall, a three-story marble structure that once served as a U.S. Post Office, federal courthouse and Customs House.
A 5:30 to 7 p.m. public reception is planned for the day, which marks the 100th anniversary of the building being declared “completed satisfactorily.” The building became City Hall in 1960 and joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
Among those scheduled to attend Monday’s ceremony: U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, former mayors and councilmembers, and Bryan Rosetti, a Biloxi High School student who will portray Laz Quave, who served as Biloxi’s mayor when the federal building became City Hall.
A display chronicling the early years of the building also will be unveiled. To get a sneak preview, click here.
