Mayor A.J. Holloway, who supported approval of the proposed South Beach Casino Resort in west Biloxi, said this afternoon that he was disappointed with the Mississippi Gaming Commission’s denial of the site, but that he respected the ruling.
“I think this ruling helps define what is a legal and suitable gaming site,” said Holloway, who last year vetoed a casino resort in east Biloxi that would have been north of U.S. 90 and the sand beach. “As much as I think this South Beach project would have jump-started all development in west Biloxi, I am confident that developer Ray Wooldridge will continue to move forward with his non-casino plans in that area.
“This ruling also increases the attractiveness of those areas of Biloxi that are already zoned for casino resorts along Back Bay and in east Biloxi.”
