Halloween events dominate the weekend

Biloxi ushers in the Halloween spirit this evening and on Saturday with two events.

The Parks and Recreation’s free annual Special Needs Halloween Costume Ball will be this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Donal Snyder Community Center, and on Saturday there’s an afternoon of costume contests, trick or treating and an outdoor movie on the Town Green.

Tonight’s Special Needs event caters to individuals with physical and mental disabilities, who can don Halloween garb and enjoy tasty treats.

Then on Saturday, there’s Halloween on the Green and the Main Street “drive-in movie,”  “Race to Witch Mountain.” You’ll find a Halloween costume contest beginning at 4 p.m., plenty of children’s games and trick or treating at booths on the Town Green, all capped by the movie, which begins at dusk.

Both of the events, which are organized by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, are free, although Main Street asks for visitors to bring a canned food item for the Salvation Army for the Town Green event.

Halloween events will continue next week, with the Seniors Halloween Bash and Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 30 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Snyder center, and the annual Halloween at Hiller Park for children up to age 11, which will be Friday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Barbara Ferrill Softball Fields.
