Four plus four equals Biloxi

The results are in from today’s general election: Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich for four more years, with four new council members.

Voters faced a Biloxi ballot with contested races for Mayor and Wards 1 and 2, while council member candidates in Wards 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 were unopposed.

According to the unofficial results, in the mayoral race, Gilich won handily, capturing nearly 80 percent of the 3338 votes (2,630), defeating Libertarian candidate Farren Santibanez with 187 votes and Independent candidate Andy Linville with 461 votes.

In the two contested council races, Republican Wayne Gray received 459 votes in Ward 1, defeating Democrat Corey Christy, who received 334 votes, and Libertarian Stephen Santibanez, who received 13 votes. Democrat Anthony L. Marshall received the Ward 2 race with 282 votes to the 175  received by incumbent Republican Felix O. Gines, and 85 votes by Independent Sonya C. White.

Primary election victories by Republican Robert “Mike” Nail in Ward 3 and Republican Jamie Creel in Ward 4 resulted in the candidates being unchallenged on the general election ballot.

Council members Republican Paul Tisdale of Ward 5, Republican Kenny J. Glavan Sr. of Ward 6, and Republican David Shoemaker of Ward 7 were all unopposed in today’s general election.

For Gilich, this will be his third full four-year term, winning his first full term in 2017 and second full term in 2021. He also won a special mid-term election in 2015.

Once the absentee ballot deadline is met on Tuesday, June 10, with votes postmarked on or by election day, the Municipal Election Commission will certify the results as early as Wednesday, June 11.
