It’s Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras season in Biloxi. That means more to celebrate and parade about, especially this weekend.
The Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department will present its popular annual Daddy-Daughter Sweetheart Dance tonight from 6 to 9 at the Donal M. Snyder Sr. Community Center. All daddys and daughters are invited to dress up and spend an evening together at the Valentine’s Day-themed event. Festivites will include the crowning of a king and queen by random drawing, $5 photos, cookies and punch, and music. The event is free and open to all ages including those with phyical and mental disabilities.
Also this weekend, the 8th annual Run for Beads that will take place in downtown Biloxi. Beginning at 8:45 a.m. Saturday in front of Biloxi City Hall. Runners and walkers will dash for the finish line for a one-mile run followed by a 5K beginning at 9 a.m. On-site registration will take place prior to the one-mile and will be $25 per person.
After the race, runners, walkers and spectators can join the public and parading children for the annual Biloxi Children’s Mardi Gras Walking Parade, which takes place along Howard Avenue and Lameuse Street. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Howard at Hopkins Boulevard and travel east on Howard to Lameuse Street, then turning south and ending at Biloxi City Hall. Once there, participants can sign up for a circus-themed costume contest and float contest. The event is free and open to ages 12 and younger.
Then on Sunday, the Biloxi Town Green will be filled with four-legged furry paraders for the 4th annual Krewe of Barkloxi Bow Wow Pawrade. Registration begins at noon, and at 1 p.m. dogs and their human parents will prance around the Town Green for a bow-wow pawrade. Participation is $10 for each pet.
Elsewhere this weekend: Monster Jam will be at the MS Coast Coliseum, and Pilgramage to the Tomb of the Unknown Confederate Solider will take place at Beauvoir. Over at the casino resorts, Clay Walker will perform at the the IP, and Smokey Robinson will entertain at the Beau Rivage.
