The Biloxi City Council this afternoon voted 6-0 to approve Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich’s nomination of Gerald Blessey as city attorney.
The vote was unanimous, save Councilmember Paul Tisdale, who was absent from the meeting.
In his mayor’s report at the outset of the meeting, Gilich outlined his support for Blessey:
“As I’ve discussed with each of you in advance, on today’s agenda is my appointment of Gerald Blessey as city attorney. I’m sure we’re all in agreement that Gerald is imminently qualified for the position, as an attorney and as a former Mayor of Biloxi.
“As part of his job, Gerald will be responsible for overseeing all legal matters for the City of Biloxi, with a challenge to reduce some of our costs.
“We’re also pleased that Michael Collins will continue in his role. His input will be valuable to Gerald in charting a future course for our legal needs.
“I also want to point out that Gerald will serve another important role for the City of Biloxi. He will head our new economic development initiative to more aggressively pursue new opportunities across the city.
“I appreciate your support of this appointment and I hope you share in my excitement about having someone of Gerald’s ability and experience back working for our city.”
