Holloway vetoes parks spending measures

Mayor A.J. Holloway, citing budget considerations as his primary concern, has vetoed two measures involving two east Biloxi recreational facilities.

In veto messages delivered to council members today, Holloway vetoed a measure that would have added an unspecified amount of fitness equipment at the Mercy Cross gym, and a measure that would have sought bids to spend as much as $350,000 to construct a “water park” and bathrooms at John Henry Beck Park.

Councilmembers had voted 5 to 2 last week to approve the measures, although no price was listed in the resolution for the gymnasium equipment, and, as Holloway noted in his veto message, the city has received no formal design plans for a proposed “water park” at Beck park.
