City of Biloxi Celebrates Parks and Recreation Month – July 2010

(Biloxi, MS) – The City of Biloxi and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month. As part of this year’s celebration, the city’s Park and Recreation Department is hosting an evening of fun and games at the Biloxi Town Green, 710 Beach Boulevard, and an afternoon Family Pool Party at the Biloxi Natatorium, 1384 Father Ryan Avenue.

The festivities begin on Friday, July 23 at 6 p.m. on the Town Green when the Parks and Recreation Department joins the Biloxi Main Street’s Drive-In event and movie of “Madagascar 2”. All children are invited to come out and have fun. There will be a giant water slide and safari hunt for all to enjoy.

Festivities will conclude on Saturday, July 24 with a Family Pool Party from noon to 3 p.m. at the Natatorium. There will be games, hot dogs, chips, soda and music. All children under the age of 10 who can not swim must be accompanied by an adult in the pool.

Admission to the Biloxi Main Street Drive-In is one can or bag of dog/cat food for the Humane Society of South Mississippi and free for the Family Pool Party. All participants at each event will need to wear proper swim suit attire; boy’s suit must have a drawstring and liner.

Since 1985, the NRPA has designed the month of July as a way to recognize the longevity of our parks and recreation as well as represent a time to bring communities together through volunteering and involvement in outdoor physical activities.
