City celebrates Community Market season opening

The City of Biloxi will celebrate the season opening of the Charles R. Hegwood Biloxi Community Market on Tuesday.

The market officially opens from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a ceremony and festival beginning at 9 a.m. under the I-110 overpass on Howard Avenue. 

The festival, hosted by Biloxi Main Street, will include cake-themed activities such as a cake walk, cake-decorating demonstrations and cupcake decorating for youngsters.  Davis & Sax will provide live entertainment, Biloxi Main Street will sell grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, refreshments and chips for lunchtime, and prize giveaways will take place every 15 minutes until the festival ends at 1 p.m.

The Charles R. Hegwood Biloxi Community Market Festival is a series of five events held throughout the year and attracts hundreds of people and dozens of specialty vendors.  Upcoming festival dates are May 23, June 29, July 20, Sept. 28, and Oct. 26.

The Charles R. Hegwood Biloxi Community Market is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.  It was formerly known as the Charles R. Hegwood Farmers Market but the name has been changed to reflect the full array of offering at the market which includes fresh produce, jams, jellies, and arts and crafts.
