Performs a variety of supervisory and technical assistance work in the planting, protection and maintenance of trees along city streets, parks, historic sites, and related areas. Works under the direct supervision of the Community Development Director. None generally but may exercise supervision over parks, recreation and beautification field personnel, as assigned. Works with Building, Planning, Cultural Affairs Divisions and the Parks and Recreation Department staffs to protect trees in construction areas; provides technical assistance to alleviate any conflicts with trees and construction. Receives all requests, inspects and issues tree trimming and removal permits on both private and public properties as per the City of Biloxi Code of Ordinances. Investigates citizen complaints; provides advice on the proper care and maintenance of trees, shrubs and plants to the public, developers, builders, architects, landscapers, tree surgeons, etc. and other governmental entities. Develop and maintain a comprehensive computerized historic tree registration program. Provide technical assistance in the preservation and maintenance of all historic sites with guidance from the Cultural Affairs Division. Prepare federal, state and private foundation grant applications; monitor grants and prepare reports for agencies, as required; prepares Tree City U.S.A. applications.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Botany or closely related Field. Three (3) years’ experience in urban forestry, or any equivalent combination of experience or education, additional education substituting in a year for year for year basis for the require experience.
