Chambers, Main Street to honor city employees

The Biloxi and Biloxi Bay chambers of commerce and Main Street Biloxi will host a luncheon for City of Biloxi employees on Wednesday in appreciation of post-Katrina recovery efforts.

The luncheon, which will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Donal M. Snyder Community Center on Pass Road, will feature barbecue, free T-shirts, and thousands of dollars in door prizes.

“We’ve enlisted dozens of sponsors for this event, and the response has been tremendous,” said Dennis Burke, one of the event’s organizers and a past president of Main Street Biloxi. “This is our way of saying thank you to city employees for all that they have done and continue to do since the storm. The response from those we’ve approached has been, ‘This is a great thing you’re doing.’”

Mayor A.J. Holloway has announced that non-emergency city employees may begin their Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday at lunchtime in order to attend the luncheon. As a result, non-emergency city departments and divisions will be closed from Wednesday at noon until they re-open at their usual time Monday morning.
