Biloxi makes another vacation list

A new online travel report pegs Biloxi as the third best cheap summer vacation spot in the country, although Acting Mayor Kenny Glavan says he’d prefer “affordable” to “cheap.”

U.S. News used “expert insight along with an assessment of affordability and traveler appeal”  to determine “the best summer vacations to take on the cheap.”

Says the report of Biloxi: “Perfectly placed to catch a cool breeze from the Gulf Coast, feisty Biloxi, Miss. is the playground of the South. Glittering casinos line the Beach Boulevard, calling out to your inner gambler; the sugar sands of Ship Island beckon to families; and hidden gems like the historic Beauvoir grounds pique the interests of even the most casual Civil War enthusiast. Although the city is still recovering from the havoc wrecked by Hurricane Katrina, the Biloxian spirit is resilient, with local businesses re-opening every day. So take a breath of that magnolia-sweetened air and saddle up to the card table, Biloxi is ready to play.”

Just last March, another online site, Cheapism.com, included Biloxi as one of the country’s Top 5 “off-the-beaten path” and inexpensive spring break destinations, and in September, CNN travel hailed the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art as one of the country’s best small-town museums.
