Biloxi gears up for Party at the Point

Promoters of Party at the Point, a three-day music, arts and food festival planned for Biloxi this weekend, say they knew the star-studded line-up and $20 ticket price would attract music and food lovers, but it’s the event’s other attractions that have suprised them.

“We’ve had dozens of people wanting to know when the stars of the ‘Swamp People’ will be there, and we’ve also had people surprised that we have events for children,” said promoter Elroy Talley of Ocean Springs. “Trapper Joe and Trigfger Tommy of the TV show ‘Swamp People’ will be there all three days, and, yes, children can get in free and there will be plenty of water-related activities, for a small fee for them, all three days.”

Additionally, The Shed barbecue joint and a number of local restaurants will be serving food, and a variety of crafsmen will be showing and selling their wares.

Headlining the affair will be Buddy Guy, a four-time Grammy winner and member of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame; the Fabulous Thunderbirds; Sawyer Brown; and Lonestar. The event will be held at Point Cadet plaza, at the site of the former Coast Guard base, on the easternmost tip of the Biloxi peninsuila, north of the Biloxi Bay Bridge. Free parking will be available at the site itself, and festival goers may also park at the Isle of Capri and enter the site from under the Biloxi Bay Bridge.

“We’ve been doing a great deal of advertising covering, mostly in an eight-hour radius from the Gulf Coast,” Talley said. “The weather forecast is great for all three days, so we’re anticipating a great response.”
