The hops will be flowing Saturday at the Coast Coliseum for the Fifth Annual Hops Beer Festival, one of the events dotting the weekend entertainment lineup.
Elsewhere, this weekend, you’ll find “Always Patsy Cline” at Center Stage; Captain Fantastic, an Elton John tribute at Hard Rock; Rick Springfield at the Beau Rivage; Break the Bar at Kress Live, and The Midtown Men, four of the stars of the original Broadway cast of “Jersey Boys” at the Golden Nugget.

Mayor on the mend, due back in office
Mayor A.J. Holloway was released from Biloxi Regional Medical Center today before noon, after being treated for flu-like symptoms since Wednesday.
“He’s doing fine,” Chief Administrative Officer David Nichols said. “There’s a lot of flu going around this time of year, but the good news is the mayor is out of the hospital and will be back on the job next week.”
Council to discuss short-term rental issue
The Biloxi City Council on Tuesday will hear status reports on the city’s on-going infrastructure work and construction at MGM Park, and a public hearing will be held to discuss the growing interest in short-term rentals, or so-called Vacation Rentals by Owners.
The issues are among the nearly two-dozen measures on the agenda for the council’s 1:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
Six months ago, the Community Development Department, in a report to the City Council, identified 160 homes being used for short-term rentals without proper approvals.

Governor, First Lady to lead Exceptional parade in Biloxi
Gov. Phil Bryant, and Mississippi’s First Lady, Deborah Bryant, will join Helen Irlen of the Irlen Institute for the MS Council for Exceptional Children (MS-CEC) Mardi Gras Parade on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. in Biloxi.
The parade, which will be led by the Ole Biloxi Marching Club  and travel from the IP to Mardi Gras Museum,  is an opening activity for the MS-CEC statewide conference being held at the IP Casino and Resort Feb. 4-6.

Council OKs plan for subdivision off Miss. 67

This week in economic development the city council voted 5-2 to approve the preliminary plat for a new 88 lot single family residential subdivision to be located on Old Highway 67, north of Woolmarket Road. With this approval, the project engineer will begin designing the infrastructure plans for the project.
Also this week, the staff completed the review of the renovation plans for the conversion of the Sheraton Four Points Hotel into a Doubletree Hotel. The building permit for this project should be issued in the next few days. Plans were received this week for the Golden Nugget Casino to renovate the 15th floor of the hotel to create suites. Plans were also received for a new Jimmy Johns Restaurant to be located on Pass Road at the north end of Beauvoir Road, and for 2 new single family houses.

Ohr-O’Keefe museum seeks ‘Katrina ambassadors’
The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is seeking volunteers to help greet visitors to a huge Hurricane Katrina-related exhibition opening at the museum in March.
During the exhibit, which will run from late March to Labor Day, the museum will be open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m.
“This is going to be the largest and most involved exhibition ever undertaken by the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art – in terms of its size, scope and community engagement,” said Ohr executive director Kevin O’Brien. “We’ll be announcing details toward the end of February, but right now we’re signing up volunteers, or ‘Katrina ambassadors,’ to help greet the thousands of visitors we expect to host at this exhibit.”
