By Hunter Reed, Biloxi Shuckers General Manager
The Shuckers are back in the Southern League Championship with a chance to achieve something no prior Shuckers team has done, win a title, but we’ll need a real home-field advantage tonight and tomorrow to help make that happen.Â
We need you, everyone reading this, to come out and cheer for your Biloxi Shuckers. Yes, the Shuckers have been here twice before in our short history, but have fallen just short each time. We now have a chance to come together as Coastal Mississippians to help push this team over the top and give us all something to be proud of.
The Saints last night gave an outstanding example of what a home-field advantage can do. Wow. Who Dat!
These Biloxi Shuckers give you everything they’ve got and have produced a winning culture. Guys like Dillon Thomas, who is unable to play in the championship due to injury, will do anything to win. Others like Luis Aviles, Jr. and Jake Gatewood, both members of the 2018 record-setting squad, are back and have talked of having unfinished business this season. They want to win and they want to win for you, the fans. After each of the first two home playoff victories over Pensacola, the players interviewed on the field acknowledged the fans impact on the game and encouraged it to continue. That means something.
This type of competitiveness and winning attitude, with the leadership of manager Mike Guerrero and his staff, is contagious and has become commonplace around here because of them. It’s not something to take for granted though. Just from personal experience and teams I’ve been around, it’s hard to make the playoffs and even harder to finish the season with the ultimate prize. It’s only happened once for me in my 15-year career to this point, but I know fan support can make a difference.
There’s only two home games left, tonight and tomorrow. It’s a special group and the Shuckers staff will do everything we can to make sure you enjoy your experience at the ballpark. I encourage you to come out and show support for this team and help us bring Biloxi a championship!
