Author to discuss Biloxi’s connection to pro baseball in 1930s

Author Gary Sarnoff, who’s penned the book “The Wrecking Crew of ’33, the Washington Senators Last Pennant,” will discuss the team’s winter training and exhibition games in Biloxi during the 1930s in a free presentation on Monday at 6 at the Biloxi Public Library.

Sarnoff used materials from the library’s local history collection in writing his book, which details the race for the 1933 World Series Pennant.

In the early 1930s, Biloxi was the site for the Washington Senators winter training and exhibition games, which were held at Biloxi Stadium, which gave way to Keesler Air Force Base. The book, published by McFarland & Company, includes specifics about the Senators’ stay in Biloxi.

The Biloxi Public Library is at 580 Howard Ave. Guests can park and enter on the north side of the building, off Bellman.
