Residents will have a chance to see a draft of the city’s comprehensive plan and comment on the document in three meetings coming up next week.
The meetings, which will all follow the same agenda, will be Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Joppa Shrine on Highway 67, north of the Woolmarket exit; and on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Community Development Department on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Additionally, the Biloxi Planning Commission will hold a workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m. in the auditorium of the Community Development Department specifically to discuss the draft of the comprehensive plan. However, no public input will be received at this workshop.
A comprehensive plan is a statement of goals, objectives, and strategies that establishes a municipality’s vision for the future and how it is to be implemented through planning policy, capital investments, and regulatory tools.
In May 2008, Biloxi began the process of updating its comprehensive plan, which will serve as a guide to long-range development of the city over the next 20 to 25 years.
The city’s plan is being prepared with assistance from a team of local and national consultants led by Wallace Roberts & Todd, a multi-disciplinary firm of planners, urban designers, architects, and landscape architects. Once the city’s comprehensive plan process is completed, the city will update its Zoning Ordinances, Subdivision Regulations, and Architectural Design Standards to be consistent with the goals, objectives, and strategies of the plan.
