The Gulf Coast Veterans Parade
will roll through downtown Biloxi Saturday beginning at 11
a.m.
This is the 10th anniversary of the Gulf
Coast parade and has been recognized by the Secretary of Veterans
Affairs for the past three years as a Veterans Day Regional Site.
The 2010 Grand Marshal is former NASA astronaut and Biloxi native
Fred Haise, who served as Lunar Module Pilot on the
aborted Apollo 13 space mission. This year marks the 40th
anniversary of that historic flight.
The parade — more than 70 units in all — begins at the north end of Caillavet Street, travels east on Esters, south on Lameuse, and passes reviewing stands at City Hall before ending at the Town Green. Among the units will be bands, marchers,
floats and vehicles.
The parade also will include a fly-over salute consisting of eight formations of planes
representing World War II warplanes, active military aircraft, and even some aircraft that have been built in the backyards and garages of
veterans.

Police news and notes
Drug drop off: Residents can take the American Medicine Chest Challenge on Saturday by removing expired or unused prescription drugs from medicine cabinets and dropping them off at a designated location for safe disposal. Drop-off sites are planned in five Coast cities from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m.: at police departments in Biloxi and Long Beach, Plant Watson in Gulfport, Target in D’Iberville, and Walmart in Pass Christian. Representatives of the Gulf Coast Substance Abuse Task Force will be on hand to answer questions.
Thanksgiving meals: Members of the Biloxi Police Department will be joining with other law enforcers this Thanksgiving to again prepare and deliver meals to the needy. To print a flyer to learn more about the event, click here.

Speaking engagements: Mayor A.J. Holloway will provide updates on various city projects during presentations on Wednesday. The mayor speaks to the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce’s Breakfast With the Mayor at 8 a.m. at Biloxi Regional Medical Center, and at the Harrison County Republican Club, which meets at lunchtime at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport.

Bring it: Mississippi Power and the Harrison County Beautification Commission will stage a hazardous household waste drop off on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Plant Jack Watson. Residents can bring batteries, motor oil, paint and other items to the collection point. To learn more, click here.
