Sammy Elliott, supply officer for the Biloxi Fire Department, prepares to toll the fire bell during Biloxi’s 9-11 remembrance ceremony this morning outside the fire museum on Howard Avenue. A couple hundred public safety workers and members of the public gathered for the ceremony, where a huge flag-colored mural displayed the names of public safety workers killed on Sept. 11, 2001 in terrorist attacks on the United States. Said Mayor A.J. Holloway to those assembled: “We are here not only to remember those who perished, but to thank those of you in uniform here today – and those in uniform across this great country we live in. To you public safety and emergency workers, and to all of the military and public safety retirees, I say thank you for the work that you do. May God remember those who perished in 9-11, and may God look over all of you here today and EVERYDAY as you go about making sure this city and this country are safe.” To see photos or your own slideshow from this morning’s ceremony, click here.
