Biloxi has a long history filled with diverse culture and in celebration of the community’s history, the City of Biloxi and Preserve Biloxi hosts the Gulf Coast Historical and Cultural Exposition Friday and Saturday at the Biloxi Civic Center.
The free affair, taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, is open to the public and will feature displays, presentations, demonstrations, lectures, films and performances by groups dedicated to the promotion of the history of Biloxi and the Gulf Coast.
The exposition, formerly known as Coast History Week, is being coordinated by the City of Biloxi, Mississippi Coast Historical & Genealogical Society, and Preserve Biloxi.
Among the groups scheduled to participate are the Slavonian Ladies Auxiliary, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church – Saturday only, Gulfport Historical Society, Land Trust for the Mississippi Coastal Plain, Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area, Gulf Coast Design Studio, Beauvoir, Biloxi Cultural and Historical Society, Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum, Hancock County Historical Society, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee, Biloxi Public Library Local History & Genealogy Department, Preserve Biloxi, Hibernia Society, Singing River Genealogy-Local History Library, University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Library’s Gulf Park College for Women Archives, Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art – Friday only, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jefferson Davis Campus – John Robinson-Brown Condor, Gulf Coast Heritage Tours – Disability Connection, and Biloxi Historical Society.

City recognizes employees for service milestone
Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich recognized nearly two dozen employees for their years of service during a longevity awards presentation last week.
City employees who were commend for the milestone this quarter are listed below.
40 years of service: Patricia Rose, Community Development Department

The week that was: Last week, the Fire Department answered 134 calls for service, including 93 medical emergencies and seven fires; the Police Department handled 2,144 calls for service; the Community Development Department issued 47 building permits with a construction valuation of nearly $800,000; and the Engineering Department continued to progress on projects throughout the city.
