Wide-open fishing: State and federal agencies announced this afternoon the opening of state waters south of the barrier islands to fishing. Still no word on when the waters would re-open to oystermen and crabbing. To see a map and the official announcement, click here.
Budget meetings: The Biloxi City Council will meet Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Municipal Building to discuss the FY 2011 municipal budget. The meeting is open to the public. To see the agendas for the meeting as well as those for several recent meetings, click here.
Registration reminder: Registration for youth football and cheerleading on Saturday and again next Saturday, Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Snyder center on Pass Road. Football is open to children ages 5 to 12 and youth cheerleading is open to children ages 7 to 12. Both sports are $30 for city residents and $50 for each non-Biloxi resident. Proof of residency and birth certificate is required at time of registration; family discounts available for Biloxi residents. Questions? Email sports@biloxi.ms.us.
Indian milestone: Mayor A.J. Holloway will participate in ceremony Monday at 11 a.m. when Biloxi school leaders and Keesler Federal Credit Union cut a ribbon on the first credit union branch to open at a Mississippi school. Read more about the honor for Biloxi High School by click here.
