Weekend preview: Biloxi Fire Museum to re-open Saturday

The West End Hose Company #3 Museum and Fire Educational Center will
re-open Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.

The
event is free and open to the public. A reception in the museum, sponsored
by Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, will follow the ceremony.

The museum is at 1046 Howard Ave., in a 1937 fire house.

The exhibits feature many historic photographs as well as antique fire
equipment that documents the 120-year history of the Biloxi Fire
Department.

The museum closed earlier this year while the city repaired damage
caused by Hurricane Katrina. The repairs where completed earlier this fall by
David Rush Construction with funding from insurance and FEMA. The $80,000
project included replacement of the roof and pumper hall doors as well as
interior repairs to the ceilings, walls, and floors.

The museum is operated by volunteers under the direction of a board of
directors with assistance from the city’s museums office. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment. For more
information, call (228) 435-6119 or by email
