U.S. 90 paving work begins tonight at DeBuys

Warren Paving, the firm that is putting tons of asphalt on city roadways in East Biloxi, has also begun a project to pave all of U.S. 90 in Biloxi.

Joel Moody, Warren’s Gulf Coast division manager, reports that paving is scheduled to begin this evening on U.S. 90 at DeBuys Road, eastbound lanes. The plan is to pave the southernmost lanes from DeBuys Road eastward to the Biloxi Bay Bridge and loop back, from the Biloxi Bay Bridge to the DeBuys Road on the westbound lanes. Two coats, or “lifts,” of asphalt will be applied to U.S. 90.

“We’re going to work a Sunday through Thursday schedule,” Moody said. “It’s all going to be night work, and it’s going to be from now until November.”

The paving is a $6.5 million MDOT-funded project, and follows up on two other sections of U.S. 90 paving that MDOT announced a year ago: The first two sections, $4.4 million and $5.5 million contracts awarded to Huey P. Stockstill, covered from the east end of the St. Louis Bay bridge to Russell Avenue, and from Russell Avenue to Debuys Road.

Moody said as many as three dozen Warren Paving workers could be on U.S. 90 during paving work in Biloxi each night, “so we’re asking motorists to please use extra caution. These workers will be in close proximity to traffic.”
