Today’s report: Biloxi Natatorium; rising state numbers

The Biloxi Natatorium will open its doors for adult swimming on Monday but with guidelines.

The swimming pool, located at 1384 Father Ryan Ave., has been closed since mid-March because of the coronavirus. The facility will open Monday morning and be open initially only for adult swimming weekdays from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. with safety protocols in place.

“Our biggest goal is the safety of the patrons as well as our staff,” Recreation Superintendent Jamie Lee said. “We are going monitor social distancing, have one swimmer per lane, entrance will be through the southwest double doors, and the exit point will be on the patio by following the walkway to an exit through one of the gates.”

Other safety measures include the closure of the locker and shower areas and there will be no waiting areas.

Those guidelines as well as reminders to social distance while attending events such as the King Master fishing tournament taking place this weekend at the Point Cadet Marine are part of today’s Be Prepared video.

Also, the Mississippi State Department of Health reports 418 new cases of the coronavirus, the largest number since the totaling began on March 11. It also reports four new cases in Harrison County and no new cases in Jackson or Hancock counties.
