Today’s report: A perspective from the gaming industry

As more of the Biloxi economy roars back from the coronavirus threat, the city and its casino industry have a unique opportunity, says longtime local gaming leader Keith Crosby in today’s Be Prepared report.

“Right now, the issue is rebuilding confidence in our customer base that it’s safe to come here, which it absolutely is, and we’re going to have to prove that,” says Crosby, general manager of the Palace Casino Resort. “And that’s a fair deal.”

Crosby, who has worked in the Biloxi gaming industry since its inception in 1992,  acknowledged the success of Memorial Day weekend, after being closed for two months, but will the business sustain? “It was a good weekend, but that’s kind of like asking me how you like the cake before you blew out the candles,” he said. “What we need to focus on, and I know my colleagues are, too, is the sustainability of this first phase, so we can get to the second phase. We want to go from 50 percent of whatever we have right now, to 75 percent, prove we got it, and get to 100.”
