MGM Park, downtown plans to headline Breakfast

The city’s plans to host a number of community events in MGM Park and have game-day events in downtown Biloxi will be among the topics Tuesday when the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce hosts “Breakfast with the Mayor.”

The free event will be at the IP Casino Resort Spa and begins at 8 a.m.

Mayor A.J. Holloway and the City Council on Tuesday hired consultant F. Cliff Kirkland to help generate revenue-producing events for the 10 annual events the city has the contractural rights to present at the ballpark. Council hears sides of short-term rentals issue

By Jerry Creel, Community Development Director

This week in economic development, the city council conducted a public hearing on “Short Term Rental”. Citizens were asked to offer their comments and recommendations concerning owners renting their single family houses for periods of less than 30 days. During the meeting, six (6) speakers offered comments in favor of short term rentals, and five (5) spoke in opposition. The city council took the comments under consideration and will take up the issue again at a future meeting.

Permits are still pending for the Sheraton Four Points conversion to Doubletree, and plans review has been completed for Jimmy Johns Restaurant on Pass Road.

A Certificate of Occupancy was issued this week for the Half Shell Oyster House located in the Hard Rock Casino, and Final Inspections are scheduled this afternoon for the new Fat Tuesday’s Daiquiri Bar.
