The wheel world spins into downtown Biloxi Wednesday

More than a thousand Cruisin’ the Coast vehicles are expected to be on display throughout downtown Biloxi Wednesday for the city’s annual Downtown Biloxi Block Party.

The street party runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with continuous entertainment on stages on the Town Green and outside City Hall, and at after-parties planned poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

“When you consider the two parties planned at the Hard Rock and the Beau, it’s going to be a full day in downtown Biloxi,” said Kay Miller, Main Street Biloxi director. “We’re looking at a thousand cars, and far more people than that.”

The Hard Rock will host a pool party from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by a Beau Rivage poolside concert headlined by the Coasters, beginning at 7 p.m. with Pop Vinyl.

The downtown block party gives visitors a chance to get an up-close look at the Cruisin’ the Coast vehicles and meet owners of the vehicles.

Several downtown streets will be closed so that vehicles can be displayed throughout the downtown area – from Lameuse Street at U.S. 90, northward to the CSX Railway, and east and west on Howard Avenue in the Vieux Marche, and on MLK Boulevard north of the Vieux Marche.

Mayor A.J. Holloway notified downtown businesses and property owners about the influx weeks ago.

“As you might imagine,” Holloway said, “introducing so many cars and visitors to our downtown will challenge the area’s parking capacity. Some downtown workers may find it more convenient to park under the I-110 overpass at Howard Avenue, or in the public lot at Main Street and Howard Avenue. Whatever you can do in this regard is appreciated.”
