The Vieux Marche goes green for Shrek on Saturday

On Saturday, the Vieux Marche will become a street fair full of activities throughout the day before being transformed into a nighttime cast party for “Shrek the Musical,” which is playing this weekend at the Saenger.

Beginning at noon, more than a dozen arts and crafts and food vendors, numerous children’s activities and entertainment will fill Howard Avenue between Reynoir and Lameuse streets.

Then at 7 p.m., the lights will go green and the cast of “Shrek the Musical” will frolic along the area, as if they were in Shrek’s “swamp.”

The cast will hold a meet-and-greet session in promotion of the musical performance taking place at the Saenger Theater now through Sunday.

Fair admission is free, but there’s a $2 entry to the children’s area, which is just north of Merit Health on Howard Avenue. You’ll find water sports, laser tag, a bouncy house and more. Children are encouraged to wear swimsuits.  $1 from each children’s area wrist band sold will go to help with restoration of the Saenger Theater.  For more information, call event promoter Jourdan Hartshorn at 228-236-7233.

Elsewhere this weekend:  Skid Row & Stryper perform at the Hard Rock, Culture Club appears at the IP, and the musical “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” continues at Center Stage.
