THE CITY OF BILOXI CELEBRATES RECREATION AND PARKS MONTH

(Biloxi, MS) – The City of Biloxi and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) proclaim July as Recreation and Parks Month. Since 1985, the NRPA has designed the month of July as a way to celebrate each city’s summer programming as well as a time to pull their communities together to volunteer, and get involved in great outdoor physical activities.

Research shows that 75% of Americans live within two miles of a public park or recreation facility and more than 75% of the population takes advantage of their local parks and recreation facilities. This is an average of about 192 million Americans visiting and enjoying these facilities annually.

As part of this year’s celebration, the City of Biloxi Parks and Recreation Department is holding fun and games at the Main Street Biloxi Drive-In Movie at the Biloxi Town Green, 710 Beach Boulevard, and a Family Pool Party at the Biloxi Natatorium, 1384 Father Ryan Avenue.

The Main Street Drive-In Movie, featuring “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be held on Friday, July 20 with fun and games from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The fun and games include Pin the Hat on Willie Wonka, Bubble Gum Blowing Contest, Fizzing Contest, Everlasting Gobstoppers search, spacewalks, and the golden ticket find where children ages 5 to 13 could win an IPOD.

The Family Pool Party will be held on Friday, July 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with fun, games, hot dogs, chips, punch and music from a local DJ. Both events are free.
